LOCATION
The 2 villas are located in a verdant environment on the rocky coast of Costa, 6 klm from the town of Porto Heli, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy resorts. Porto Heli is in the Prefecutre of Argolida (capital: Nafplio) on Peloponnese, only 200 klm to the southwest of the capital Athens. An affluent residential area peacefully secluded in a small natural bay, Porto Heli is renowned for its thick pine vegetation and its clear beaches. Its superb climate guarantees mild winters with scarce rains and long summers lasting from April through as late as November. Its varied coastline of rocky and sandy beaches stretches many kilometres on the Gulf of Argolida and is dotted by luxurious villas scattered around on small slopes. With its impressive infrastructure Porto Heli attracts high-class vacationers with a lavish lifestyle from around the globe, that give this picturesque port an elegant atmosphere which has earned it the title of the Greek Riviera.

How to get there
• By car: Costa can be reached from the capital Athens by car by taking the Athens – Corinth National Road. When you reach the Isthmus Canal follow the exit to EPIDAVROS to the right and continue on a well sign-posted road that winds through the soaring mountains of Argolida in a stunning scenery with breathtaking views over the Gulf. Many signs along the way show the direction and the distance to Porto Heli. Once there, you will take the roundabout and continue to your right, following the direction to Costa just 6 klm away. Before reaching the port of Costa turn left at the sign “Spetses”, driving past the car parking lot which you will have to your right. The 2 villas a few metres up the unpaved road. Total distance from Athens is 200 klm.

• By sea: Costa can be reached in only 2 – 2.5 hrs by flying dolphin from Greece's main port of Piraeus. Dolphins depart for Porto Heli 7 times a day Monday through Sunday in summer and less frequently in winter. For more details log on to www.hellenicseaways.gr (Athens office tel.: 210 41 99 00, Porto Heli branch tel.: 27540 51444). Transport by taxi (Tel. 27540 51212) must be arranged from the port of Costa to the villas.

WHAT TO DO
A great variety of activities around the area of Costa and in Porto Heli will keep you, your family and your friends pleasantly busy all day long, all year round:
• Swimming: Small secluded beaches wait for you to explore, hidden in rich pine vegetation on the way from Porto Heli to Hinitsa and Agios Aimilianos, best reached by speed boats. Porto Heli's crystal clear sea water has been awarded with the European Union's Blue Star Flag. Ask the locals where you can swim over, and actually look at, the remains of the ancient town, a truly great experience that will give to your dive a touch of a trip back to history.

• Walks: After the hot summer sun has set, you can set off for small walks nearby: not to be missed are the small chapel of Agios Aimilianos (half way between Porto Heli and Kosta) for a panoramic view of the sea and the green environment, the monasteries of Agioi Anargyroi and Avgo, the famous cave of Frahthi in the nearby village Koilada, and many more.

Eating: Living up to its reputation of a well organised luxury resort with high-standard amenities, Porto Heli is awash with a large number of high-class restaurants and traditional fish taverns that cater to all budgets and likes
 “Ostria” (tel. 27540 53625), a luxury cafe-restaurant at the far end of the main road of Porto Heli with tables laid out on a deck by the sea, that offers mainly French cuisine delicacies;
 “Rota”, right across Ostria, is a smaller but equally attractive alternative;
 “Papadias”: (tel. 27540 51064). A traditional (even though pricey) fish tavern that attracts a distinguished clientele with a discriminating palate. Don't be surprised if you see celebrities dining next to you, who might have just docked their yacht nearby.
 “Kavouraki” (tel. 27540 57382), at the end of the uphill road and to the left, right across Evangelismos church, is a tavern famous for its fresh fish. More can be found further afield on the road from Porto Heli to Costa:
 “En plo” (tel. 27540 51489), with cool music and funky atmosphere and an original menu written in an old school-type copybook;
 “Alati kai Piperi” (tel. 27540 53533), a brand new eaterie with young, hippy crowd,
 “Maistraki” on Ververonda beach, situated literally on the beach, etc.
 Other alternatives can be found in the villages nearby: Koilada, Thyni, Ag. Aimilianos, Korakia.

• Sports: A great variety of sea sport activities like sea ski, jet ski, windsurf, etc are available in Porto Heli, or on the organised beach of Agios Aimilianos to the far end of the gulf, or on the beach of Ververonda, ca 9 klm from Costa, where the beach bars “Caramouza” and “Ververonda island” can keep you cool all day.

ESCAPES NEARBY
Worthwhile one-day attractions within easy reach from Costa and Porto Heli:
• Spetses: Unquestionably one of the area's most popular draws, the cosmopolitan island of Spetses in the Argosaronikos complex is just 2 nautical miles across, which means it can be reached fast and easily in any of the following ways from Costa:
 by private taxis operating all day long (duration of trip: 5 – 6 mins; tel. 22980 72072)
 by larger boats that leave regularly throughout the day (duration 10 mins)
 by ferry boat departing 4 times a day (duration: 15 mins)
For more details on timetables and fare prices you can contact Porto Heli Port Authority on tel. 27540 53333.
Easy and frequent access makes Spetses suitable either for a full-day escape, or an afternoon coffee break on the famous port of Dapia, or just a hot night out in any of the plenty fashionable bars and clubs frequented by the young and the old. Nice beaches can be found within walking distance from where the boats dock at the port of the old town or by hiring another boat that can get you to the most secluded ones. After your swim you can enjoy a ride on a traditional horse cart or just walk around the tiny cobbled streets and travel back to the times of the Greek Revolution of 1821 when Spetses was the first Greek island to revolt against the Ottoman occupation. Every year, on the first Saturday following the 8th of September the island dresses up for the colourful “Armata” festivities to celebrate the participation in the Greek Revolution: a dummy of the Turkish “armada” is burnt in a reconstruction of the sea battle in the middle of the sea and fireworks light up the sky.

• Hydra: Its amphitheatrically built grey, white and blue-coloured port embraced by canons on both sides built in the old days to protect it from sea enemies is probably one of the most beautiful and recognizable images of Greece. Once an important nautical station and having played a significant role in the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman occupation in 1821, it has a rich historical and cultural heritage. With no cars allowed on the island and with the donkeys used as the only means of transport around the cobbled alleys, a one-day visit from Porto Heli to Hydra is a worthwhile experience and can be spent in many ways: on one of the rocky or sandy beaches accessible either on foot or by boat leaving from the main port; or with a visit in the Historical Museum, rich in collections of interesting exhibits; or by admiring representative works of famous Greek artists in the School of Fine Arts. Top-notch restaurants and internationally famed clubs and bars can cater to all tastes for a cool evening break. No wonder every summer Hydra is among the top selections of the jet set society from across the world and posh yachts and cruisers dock at its port all year round. Hydra can easily be reached by flying dolphin that leaves from Porto Heli port 7 times a day in summer and less frequently in winter. The journey lasts from 45 mins to 1 hour (depending on the ports the boat docks at). For more information you can contact the Seaways Agent at Porto Heli on tel. 27540 51444.

• Epidavros: A mere 55 klm to the north of Porto Heli lies the village of Ancient Epidavros awash in many important archaeological sites, the most important of which is undoubtedly the Ancient Theatre. Built in the 4th century BC by the Argean architect Polykleitos and famed for its unique acoustics the Ancient Theatre of Epidavros is among the most significant archaeological sites in Greece and the whole world. Since 1952 it has been hosting the Summer Festival of Ancient Epidavros (www.hellenicfestival.gr), one of Europe's mostly praised cultural events. High-class performances of ancient Greek Tragedy, opera, etc. are staged every summer (on Fridays and Saturdays from beginning of June through end of August) and many Greek and foreign artists of international caliber, like Maria Callas, Melina Merkouri, Irene Papas, Manos Hadjidakis, Dimitris Mitropoulos, Lucianno Pavarotti and Montserrat Caballe have honoured the place. Enjoy the lifetime experience of watching Sophocles' or Euripides' famous works seated on the ancient marble seats just like our ancestors centuries ago, in a cool night summer breeze.

• Nafplio: Just 75 klm. to the northwest of Porto Heli is located the picturesque and historical town of Nafplio, once the capital of the Greek state, well worth a one-day visit from Porto Heli. Founded by the mythical hero Nafplios, the town played a significant role in the Greek history. In the Mycenaean era it grew to a powerful maritime state, but soon fell into decline and was deserted. During the Middle Age it became part of the Byzantine empire and was later occupied by the Venetians, who erected most of the prominent landmarks of the town still visible nowadays: the small fortress of Bourtzi built in 1471 on the islet of Agioi Theodoroi, the castle of Palamidi built in 1711 - 1714 that lies atop a 857-step staircase and served as a prison where the Greek Revolution hero Theodoros Kolokotronis was imprisoned – well worth the rewarding climb up the stairs, etc. After the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman occupation was over in 1821 Nafplio was declared the first official capital of the liberated Greek state. Get lost in the narrow alleys of this colourful town and make a memorable travel back in time.

• Monemvasia ,often referred to as “Gibraltar of Greece”, is an imposing, centuries-old steep rock off the east coast of the Laconia prefecture, 95 klm to the southeast of its capital Sparta and an approximate 200 klm drive from Porto Heli. The name derives from the Greek words “moni emvassis” = “one single way to”, which describe the narrow strip of land that connects the rock to the mainland and serves as the only access. Archaeological findings testify that the first settlers were the Spartans who in the 6th century A. D migrated from their hometown heading south in search for a safe place to protect themselves from the barbarians. They chose the walled fortress of Monemvassia as the ideal shelter, for its strategic location and the access it offered to the sea. The long period of Byzantine and Venetian occupation has left its trace on the ornate medieval buildings, the cobbled alleys, the churches and the castle of the Old Town. This magnificent scenery, combined with the awesome landscape of the rock, creates a mystic atmosphere of romanticism and devoutness hard to describe with words. Outside of the Old Town lies the modern New Town. There are many options for a one-day escape to Monemvassia: a swim in the beaches nearby, dinner at the taverns in and outside the Old Town, a drink at a terrace bar with stunning view, or just a relaxing walk around the alleys.
